Solingen, May 6, 2021– The automotive industry faces new challenges in the testing of drive inverters and components for electric vehicles. In order to test the components with the typical power conversion, the test must be carried out as realistically as possible within the framework of a driving cycle (e.g. NEDC, Directive 70/220/EEC; Artemis cycle). REO AG, headquartered in Solingen, offers individual test systems for this need.
With the newly developed test systems from REO, driving cycles that comply with the strict legal standards and guidelines can now be simulated for the first time. In addition, individual operating profiles can be used to create test sequences defined by the company. The components can thus be tested on the REO test bench under a wide variety of real conditions and loads.
REO develops the test systems for electric vehicles individually tailored to customer requirements. This includes, for example, the implementation of a specific power conversion. “With our REO test systems, we consider both the voltage and current source, as well as the ohmic and inductive loads. With the REO sources, the Artemis cycle can be programmed via special LabVIEW software so that it is output to the DC source in a 100ms grid”, says Thomas Stüttgen, Head of Test Technology at REO AG, and continues: “the test unit is therefore also suitable for loading with realistic operating profiles.” All individual developments have in common the consistently high quality under the label Made in Germany. REO is firmly convinced that the use of high-quality materials, experience in development and production, and the careful use of resources are fundamental aspects for durable products, reliability and satisfied customers.
Thanks to decades of experience in the field of railway technology, where REO has repeatedly set standards through flexibility, high-quality customer-specific solutions and constant new developments, and participation in interdisciplinary research projects, REO engineers have developed a holistic picture of e-mobility. Starting with battery technology, through the entire range of electric motors, to test systems with a high quality level.
Of particular note is the research project, highly ranked with 15 partners, to increase vehicle energy efficiency through prediction. The aim of this project is, on the one hand, the integration of a novel resistance generation and, on the other hand, the interaction of thermal management in the vehicle. At the same time, efficient systems and an intelligent interaction of all energy-relevant components ensure minimal energy consumption in the areas of lighting, thermal management, drive train and energy on-board network. An intelligent interaction of all energy-relevant components is important here. These measures are intended to noticeably increase the range of electric vehicles.
