For REO, considering products holistically means planning for circumstances that are rather unlikely in Germany: earthquakes. To ensure safe and long-term use all over the world, REO products, such as column variable transformers of various power classes, are built to be earthquake-resistant.
To prevent damage or even destruction of the transformers during an earthquake due to jerky movements or vibrations, components and fastenings are selected to meet high requirements, and special safety mechanisms are planned, even in the early conceptual phase. The products are then tested for their resilience in extreme situations using elaborate simulation methods. For this purpose, different spectra with various frequencies, accelerations, and directions are considered and simulated at the REO Berlin Competence Center.
